On the morning of June 12, 2025, the town of Pola, Oriental Mindoro came alive in a vibrant celebration of freedom, heritage, and national pride as it commemorated the 127th Philippine Independence Day with the theme: “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan.” Spearheaded by the Pola Municipal Police Station in close collaboration with the Municipal Government under the leadership of Mayor Jennifer M. Cruz, the event was a resounding success, reflecting the collective spirit and deep patriotism of the Pola community.

The day began with a solemn yet spirited parade from the Municipal Building Area in Bayanan to the Pola Community College Plaza. Civil society organizations, elected officials, barangay leaders, national agencies stationed in Pola (including DILG, BFP, PNP, Pola Water District, RBP, and MTC), and municipal employees proudly joined the parade, waving Philippine flaglets, a symbolic gesture of shared history and unwavering national pride.

Following the invocation and the resounding rendition of the National Anthem, a dignified wreath-laying ceremony took place to honor the memory of the heroes who fought and died for the country’s freedom. As the wreath was solemnly offered, a 21-gun salute rang through the air, a powerful tribute to the brave souls who gifted this nation its liberty. The booming echoes of the salute reminded all present of the high price of independence and the duty to preserve it for future generations.

In a deeply moving moment, PMAJ FLORANTE M SUGIAN II, Chief of Police of Pola, rendered a “Tribute to the Flag,” delivering a poem-like presentation that captured the soul of the Philippine flag. His heartfelt words spoke of the flag’s symbolism, its colors, its sun, and stars, and the honor, struggle, and blood it represents. The message stirred emotions, reinforcing the importance of respect, patriotism, and unity.

Vice Mayor Marvin T. Rivera delivered sincere and powerful opening remarks, setting a tone of gratitude and responsibility. Mayor Jennifer M. Cruz followed with an inspirational message, urging every Poleno to take part in shaping a future that honors the sacrifices of the past and champions the dreams of the present.

The celebration also looked to the future as the Sab-uyan Festival programs and activities were officially announced. This was followed by the much-anticipated presentation of Miss Pola 2025 and the Ikatlong Lahi candidates, showcasing the vibrance and potential of Pola’s youth and cultural legacy.

Indeed, this year’s Independence Day celebration in Pola was more than just a tradition; it was a heartfelt reminder of what it means to be Filipino. Through the dedicated efforts of the Pola MPS and the Municipal Government, the occasion became a beacon of unity, remembrance, and hope.
