Personnel from the Pola Municipal Police Station were among the participants who successfully completed the Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) Responder’s Training held from May 19 to 23, 2025. The training was spearheaded by Rescue Recon in partnership with the ABS-CBN Foundation Sagip Kapamilya and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Pola.

The intensive training officially concluded on May 23, equipping the participants with essential knowledge and skills in responding to aquatic emergencies—such as water rescues and the provision of immediate medical assistance.

This initiative aimed to prepare local responders for water-related disasters, a crucial effort considering that Oriental Mindoro is frequently affected by typhoons and storm surges.

A total of 67 individuals from various sectors in Pola participated in the training. Among them was Pat. Cristian Fortu of the Pola MPS, along with barangay officials, local government employees, and MDRRMO personnel.

Participants underwent a series of practical rescue operations, including river crossing, life-saving swimming techniques, and other water-based emergency response drills. With the guidance of experts from Rescue Recon, the trainees successfully acquired fundamental techniques in managing incidents in rivers, seas, and other bodies of water.

Through the strong collaboration between local agencies and the community, Pola has significantly strengthened its disaster preparedness. The newly graduated WASAR responders are now ready to serve as skilled and reliable first responders in times of calamity.
